Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is an excellent value offering, bringing Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, with the added bonus of having all DLC for both games thrown in for free. Of course, the games have been given a graphical polish to take better advantage of the power which the PS4 and Xbox One offer. If you haven’t played one or both of the games included in The Handsome Collection then this should be a no-brainer for you. If you have already played both, then there still may be plenty of reason to jump back in.
It is clear that this collection offers a massive amount of content for its €59.99/£49.99 RRP. Apart from the fact that the main games themselves will probably take a total of over 100 hours to complete, you have the added DLC which add dozens of further hours of content to the mix. So, if you are looking for something which you can get a long play time out of, then this collection is for you! The games have been given a graphical boost and now render at 1080p on both consoles, however, the game does suffer from frame rate issues. Noticeable dips are experienced at certain parts of the game on both platforms and while this isn’t a major issue, it can become slightly annoying. Thankfully, Gearbox and 2K have acknowledged the issue and are working on patches to ease the issue. Hopefully these patches will solve the only issue that The Handsome Collection has.
Apart from the frame rate, the game looks excellent graphically. There is a noticeable improvement on the visuals present in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. We won’t be going into the details of both of the games themselves, as they have already been released. This review deals only with the remastered product. Of course, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is as fun to play as the original games were, with online co-operative play offering great entertainment. This release also added the ability to play split-screen co-operative with 4 players, which has been a much requested feature for the game.
Finally, the ability to carry over your save file from PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One is present, however, you must upload the file from within the PS3/Xbox 360 version, so, you must still have the original game and console to hand in order to do this. Overall, The Handsome Collection is a must-buy if you haven’t played either or both of the game included and if you have already played them, why not return and play them again, with the added DLC?
