Back in the Playstation Meeting of February 20th 2013, the Playstation 4 was finally unveiled to the gaming world. However, that wasn’t the only shock journalists got on that day. During the conference, Sony welcomed Chris Metzen of Blizzard Entertainment on stage for an announcement; the Diablo III console edition. This announcement marked the first console release by Blizzard Entertainment in over 15 years. Well, after a long wait, we finally have the PS4 edition of Diablo III, titled the Ultimate Evil Edition.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition is one of the most content-packed releases on the Playstation 4 system thus far. Not only do you get the entire Diablo III game, but in addition, you receive all of the content included in the Reaper of Souls expansion pack (including the endless adventure mode). Other additions to the base game through the large expansion pack are a higher level cap, new skills and gameplay inventory enhancements. If you played the PS3 version of Diablo III and are upgrading to PS4, you can import your character seamlessly.

Where the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game were noticeably visually downgraded in order to become compatible with the hardware available on those systems, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game run perfectly in the graphics department, at 1080P with 60FPS. The textures, characters, environments and lighting all look phenomenal, presenting a clear, crisp and vivid image to the player. Occasionally, you may find the frame rate dips slightly during very intensive scenes, however, it doesn’t happen often and certainly does not hamper enjoyment of the game. Obviously, the visually still will not quite match the levels you would see on a top rate gaming PC, but, they come pretty close. The visual improvement is a major one over the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

If you are a fan of Diablo III, you could easily sink a couple of hundred hours into the game. Whether it be exploring new areas, finding new ways to upgrade/improve your character or hunting for new legendary items, Diablo III has a wealthy of content and objectives for players to complete. In the original PC version, leveling was far more limited and it could be done pretty quickly. After a huge number of updates and the release of new content, there is far more available now in Diablo III.

Overall, the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition is well worth a purchase regardless of whether you have played it before. Those who have played it on the PC will benefit from the controls that consoles offer the game which, in my opinion, are far more suitable for Diablo III than a mouse and keyboard. If you have played the PS3 version, the additional content and graphical improvements are enough to warrant an upgrade. Finally, if you have never played the game before, make sure you get this version of the game for the best experience; Diablo III: Reaper of Souls truly is a must play!
